Protest Proposed Sewer Rate Increases before July 28, 2015

City of Millbrae sent out notices to Millbrae residents dated 6/2/2015 advising of their intention to raise our Sewer Charges every year over the next five years in addition to adding a new ‘Sewer Sanitary Overflow Charge’.  This new charge will eventually cost Millbrae Residential Water customers an additional $23.90 per month for the next 21 years!  By 2019 the average Residential Water customer will be paying $165.60 bi-monthly just for Sewer Charges alone.  Add to that $30.00 bi-monthly for Water Meter charge and we are looking at $195.90 bi-monthly and this still does not include the cost of our actual water/sewer usage.

The City has given no justification for this increase nor has it provided any plan that justifies these outrageous increases.    We have a chance to stop this increase and require the City to provide proper justification. 

The only way to stop it is to send in your written protest letter to City Hall by the deadline of July 28th, 2015.  If you disagree with these rate increases please let your voices be heard.  As long as you are a Millbrae Water customer and are responsible for paying the water bill, you have a right to protest it.  There are a few ways to get the information needed to file a valid protest.  Please do what you can to help us.  We need 3,351 valid protests.

1. Visit the City of Millbrae Website at   http://www.ci.millbrae.ca.us/index.aspx?page=142 and click on the link ‘Notice to Increase Sewer Rates for City of Millbrae Customers’.  Here you will find the notice mailed to residents dated 6/2/2015 that explains the proposed increases over the next 5 years.  Follow instructions under ‘How to Protest the Proposed Rates‘
2. Another way to get information and help with the protest letter is to visit my online Petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com and enter ’Millbrae’ in the search box and press Search.  The first petition in the list should be ’Protest City of Millbrae CA Sewer Rate Increases’.  Click on the link to get to the Petition.  Here you will find my overview of information regarding the impact of the increases, in addition on the Petition tab is a template letter available to copy and print for your use.  Complete the blank fields and either deliver it in person or mail to City Hall before the 7/28/2015 deadline.  Please also sign the petition so we can tally how many customers will be protesting.  These signatures will not be accepted by the city as a valid protest so it is critical that you send in your written signed protest letter.
