School District Could Ask Voters for $30 Million for Building Fixes

Move comes three years after voters approved another $30 million bond for schools.

The Millbrae Board of Trustees could ask voters to approve a new, $30 million bond measure later this year to pay for building improvements.

School board leaders will begin talks with a financial consulting agency in the next couple of weeks, and estimate schools need at least $30 million for improvements, officials said in Wednesday's meeting.

“We have seen such wonderful things being done with the exterior of buildings, and now we need to focus on the interior,” said Trustee Caroline Shea.

The $30 million potential bond is in addition to , a $30 million bond passed in November 2008 to renovate school infrastructure, such as leaky roofs and outdated plumbing.

The board mentioned taking advantage of the current low-priced construction costs to revamp some buildings that have been neglected for 30 years.
