Suspected Gunman Found Dead Following Shooting In Mill Valley

A shelter-in-place order has been lifted.

UPDATE:

MILL VALLEY, CA – A suspect who apparently shot two people Thursday afternoon at an apartment complex in Mill Valley is dead, sheriff's officials said.

As of 5:50 p.m. tactical teams had entered an apartment where the suspect was and found him dead, sheriff's Sgt. Brenton Schneider said.

The suspect has only been described as an 80-year-old man, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and wearing a white shirt.

Schneider said sheriff's officials believe no threat to the public exists anymore and a shelter-in-place order has been lifted.

The shelter-in-place perimeter was East Blithedale Avenue west to Meadow Drive then north to Lomita Drive and from Meadow Drive east to U.S. Highway 101.

Sheriff's officials alerted the public about the initial shooting at about 3:40 p.m. The scene was an apartment complex in the 900 block of East Blithedale Avenue, near Tower Drive, just off of Highway 101.

MILL VALLEY, CA – At least two people were shot Thursday afternoon at an apartment complex in Mill Valley, where the suspect is at large, authorities said.

The shooting took place in the 900 block of East Blithedale Avenue. Two victims were taken from the scene, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

Police have set up a perimeter to search for the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous. He was described as an 80-year-old man with a gun, roughly 5 feet 5 inches tall and wearing a white shirt.

Authorities asked residents in the area to shelter in place. The shelter in place perimeter is from East Blithedale and Ashford avenues to Meadow Drive, including Dorset Lane, Shell Road and Lomita Drive, from Meadow Drive to Highway 101. Otherwise, police have asked people to avoid the area.
