SAN ANSELMO, CA — A homeowner was injured Monday after confronting an armed burglary suspect inside a residence in San Anselmo, the Central Marin Police Authority said.
Around 5:39 p.m., officers responded to a report of a residential burglary on Island Drive near the San Rafael border.
Police said the homeowner encountered a man inside the home and a physical altercation followed. During the confrontation, the suspect struck the victim with a handgun before fleeing eastbound on Island Drive. No shots were fired.
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Central Marin police officers and San Rafael police officers established a perimeter around the neighborhood while searching for the suspect. Because police believed the suspect was armed, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.
Police also deployed a drone and K-9 teams from the Novato and San Rafael police departments to assist in the search.
After what police described as an exhaustive search, the shelter-in-place order was lifted around 8:45 p.m. Investigators determined the suspect likely left the area in a vehicle as officers were arriving.
The suspect was described as a white man in his 30s with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black mask and a black hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Central Marin Police Authority at 415-927-5150.
