Avoiding Gluten over The Holidays

I recently listened to hours of interviews with the world’s leading researchers on the effects of eating gluten.   If you are interested in this information, for $67 you can download the transcripts and audio recordings at www.theglutensummit.com.  The information is life-changing.

While understanding the details of this ground-breaking research will provide the motivation you may need, the biggest take away for me is to not “cheat” on this dietary decision.  We learned that the health effects of eating wheat and gluten are insidious, extend to almost all aspects of health from heart disease to multiple scleroses, and can take years to manifest.

That’s right, it’s not just a hazard for that part of the population that knows that they are allergic and show symptoms like skin rash or sinus congestion.   Eating gluten is now linked to long term debilitating diseases and the research is compelling.

Luckily, there are now many alternative foods and recipes for traditional foods without gluten.  We had a gluten-free stuffing for our turkey, gluten-free crackers for our hors d'oeuvres, and a gluten-free pie crust for the pumpkin pie.

There are now gluten-free bakeries in Marin, SF and the East Bay so you can get your favorite baked goods.   Make your contribution to the holidays gluten-free and you may be surprised how many fellow revelers will be glad you did!
