Calder Quartet Steps in for Prazak Quartet at Mill Valley Concert This Sunday

The Mill Valley Chamber Music Society has announced that the Calder Quartet will perform for its 5 p.m. concert this Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church in Mill Valley. The Calder Quartet steps in to perform for the originally scheduled Prazak Quartet, an admired ensemble from the Czech Republic. The Prazak Quartet canceled its North American tour this week due to the illness of one of its members.
The Calder Quartet program will feature Mozart’s Quartet in C, K465 “Dissonance”; Three Pieces by Stravinsky; Mendelssohn’s Quartet in F minor, op. 80; and “Arcadiana”, by contemporary British composer, Thomas Adès. Calder Quartet members are Benjamin Jacobson and Andrew Bulbrook, violin; Jonathan Moerschel, viola; and Eric Byers, cello.
The Calder Quartet formed at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music and continued studies at the Colburn Conservatory of Music with Ronald Leonard, and at the Juilliard School, where it received the Artist Diploma in Chamber Music Studies as the Juilliard Graduate Resident String Quartet.
The Calder Quartet, called “outstanding” and “superb” by the New York Times, defies boundaries through performing a broad range of repertoire at an exceptional level, always striving to channel the true intention of the work’s creator. Calder Quartet recent featured performances include Carnegie Hall, Washington Performing Arts Society, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the Cleveland Museum of Art with Iva Bittova, a residency at BRAVO! Vail Valley Festival, the Melbourne Festival with Thomas Adès, as well as concerts at Stanford Lively Arts and Le Poisson Rouge (New York) with Grammy-winning pianist Gloria Cheng.
