Earth Day, 9am-1pm, Celebrate Earth Day by bringing your family and friends for a morning of naturalist led explorations, bird watching, restoration and clean-up. We will be providing information about bay and bird conservation as well as the research at Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary. Help make a difference and connect with our beautiful bay and uplands. Even the wildflowers should be out in full force to brighten the day! Activities are appropriate for all ages, including young children. All restoration participants are asked to sign a waiver, for youth under 18 a waiver must be signed by a parent/guardian. Spring Fling at Slide Ranch, 10am – 4pm Celebrate springtime on the farm with live kid-friendly music, local organic cuisine, and hands-on farm and craft activities for all ages. See how a sweater is made through sheep shearing, carding and spinning wool, and other wool crafts. Spark your creative side through sustainable nature crafts and face painting, reconnect with the land on a guided coastal hike, or simply relax on a picnic blanket while eating delicious offerings from local farms.
Golden Gate to Slide Ranch Coastal Hike, Want to hike your way to Spring Fling? Lace up your boots and fill your water bottle for a self-guided hike from the Golden Gate Bridge to Slide Ranch as part of a series of events celebrating the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary. Hikers should start out by 8 at the latest in order to make it by noon for live music, local organic cuisine and family activities of the annual Spring Fling event. This is a good hike for the fit person, including lovely trails that will be filled with wild flowers of spring. Not recommended for children under 12 years old. Shuttle service will be available to take hikers back to the Bridge at the end of the day. Admission fee for the Spring Fling event will include the cost of the shuttle.
Celebrate Opening Day on the Bay at the Treasure Island Sailing Center with FREE sailboat rides, kayaking, and Stand Up Paddle Boarding! Enjoy music, games, food, and activities for the whole family. BBQ lunch will be available for $3 per person and $10 for a family of 4.

Bird Banding at Palomarin Field Station, 7:30 am – 12:00 pm, FREE, Get up close and personal with the many resident and migratory songbirds that are captured in mist nests at the PRBO’s Palomarin Field Station (aka Bird Banding Lab) in Bolinas. As they do every day in the spring, PRBO interns and staff will be banding birds, measuring and weighing them, explaining the process to visitors, and answering questions. Tracking and Awareness, 7:30 am – 11:00 am, $30, Slow down into the world of the Tracker. Join internationally certified (Level III) tracker and Marin Tracking Club leader Richard Vacha in an exploration of tracks and signs left by local birds, mammals and insects, bringing to life the often invisible world of animal activities and their relationships with each other and with the environment. We will learn and practice ancient awareness techniques and learn the skills to enter the world of the tracker. The group will focus as much as possible on bird tracks and how a tracker can use bird calls and bird movement as an awareness tool. Easy trail walking. Children’s Program on Buddha’s Birthday, On Buddha’s Birthday the Children’s Program is busy taking care of preparations for the day. We begin by decorating the pagoda and preparing bowls of flower petals for the procession. Then we gather under the canopy for a snack and to listen to a reading of the story of the birth of the Buddha. Those children who wish may join in the pageant with a small, straightforward, and fun part. Kids Birdathon Ages 8-16, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, $5 per child, Experienced birders will lead small teams of approximately six kids each (with parents along to observe, assist, and help transport birding teams). Groups will scour several unique habitats within the beautiful Point Reyes National Seashore with a goal of having the kids spot 20 species per hour for a total of 60 bird species in three hours! A 90-minute hike will be followed by a compilation celebration at the West Marin School Gym, Point Reyes Station, at 9:00 am Teams will depart by 9:30 sharp. Tidepooling at Duxbury Reef – Life on the Edge, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, $30, Come enjoy a low-tide exploration of one of the largest shale reefs in North America. We’ll discuss the unique geology of the area and the marine influences that make it such a rich site. Dress in layers. Bring binoculars, a hand lens if you have one, lunch.
Nesting Egrets at Griffin Preserve, 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm, $30, Enjoy visiting one of the largest, most dramatic heron and egret nesting sites on the West Coast at this 1,000-acre wildlife sanctuary. A brief lecture on the history of the nesting site at the Martin Griffin Preserve and Audubon Canyon Ranch’s long-term heronry monitoring project will be followed by a half-mile walk. The walk will be uphill and mildly strenuous but well worth it for the views of nesting herons and egrets. Audubon Canyon Ranch, Martin Griffin Preserve, Stinson Beach. Terrestrial Mammals of Point Reyes, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, $35, Point Reyes National Seashore is home to such dynamic mammals as Tule elk, coyote, bobcat, seals, sea lions and whales. Almost 40 species of land mammals inhabit the area including a diverse group of rodents, weasels, hares, ringtail, and mountain lion. Join biologist John Harris to discover the natural history and unique world of many of these elusive animals. This field trip will include the use of live traps that will allow a closer study and appreciation of several mice, voles, and other nocturnal rodents.
