When we think about the beginning of the school year, we think about new teachers, new friends, new expectations, and all of the logistics of parenting a school-aged child. And then comes the push for more independence, the nightly meltdown that didn’t happen last year, or the “please don’t talk to me in front of my friends.” We may find ourselves wondering what happened and how did we get here? It’s easy to feel lost when our children enter a new developmental stage. We may understand what to expect from a parenting book or article, but it can be much harder to recognize and respond to these changes when they show up at home. In this workshop, we’ll explore the developmental stages of the elementary and middle school years, what to expect as children grow and change, and practical ways to navigate these new phases while strengthening communication, connection, and understanding with your child.

Guide Dogs For The Blind Inc

Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) will celebrate its guide dog team graduates every other Saturday with public graduation ceremonies at the organization’s campus in San Rafael. These touching public events have inspired tears in even the most stoic audience members, as graduating guide dog teams proudly take the stage. Families are welcome at the ceremonies, which honor the enhanced safety, independence, and companionship that GDB’s guide dogs provide for GDB’s clients who are blind or visually impaired. The events also allow GDB’s clients to meet the puppy raisers who cared for their dogs prior to beginning formal training at GDB’s campus. Ceremonies also recognize recent graduates of GDB’s Orientation andMobility (O&M) Program and K9 Buddy Program, as well as newly placed Breeder Dogs.

Admission is free, and Kleenex will be provided. Pre-registered bus groups are welcome. Public tours of the campus are offered on the days of the ceremonies. Graduation events are also livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/@gdb_official/streams.

Please join the families of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Mill Valley, for our annual Blessing of the Animals, which will be held on Sunday, October 4, at 4:00pm, in the North Bridge Academy / Church Parking Lot, 17 Buena Vista Avenue, Mill Valley. Our priest in residence, Fr. Bill Brown, a self-proclaimed lover of animals, will be offering the blessing.
Many Catholic churches around the world traditionally celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with an invitation for their local community members to bring their pets for a communal blessing. Fr. Patrick Michaels, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, says that, “Francis saw God’s hand in every aspect of Creation. In blessing our pets – those creatures of Divine Ingenuity – we give thanks for the blessings they are in our lives.” St. Francis is said to have preached to and blessed attentive birds, tamed a wolf, and freed animals from traps. In this event, we celebrate the many ways in which God’s care reaches beyond the human to encompass all of Creation.
One parish friend remarked that, for animal lovers, “this blessing is a sight to see.” In addition to dogs and cats, past attendees have included fish, birds, guinea pigs, lizards, turtles and snakes; in the case of animals unable to travel or socialize, owners have brought pictures to share.

Please note that you do not have to have a pet to attend. If you prefer not to bring your pet, feel free to bring a photograph. All pets should be under the direct control of their owners, either on a leash or appropriately contained, at all times.

Praised be you, my Lord, with all your Creatures. – St. Francis of Assisi

What is The Heart of the Warrior? This 2-day workshop facilitated by Syzygy Dance Project founder Sylvie Minot combines voice dialogue work from Hal and Sidra Stone, co-creators of the Psychology of Selves and the Voice Dialogue method, with the movement practice of 5Rhythms and the idea of a Sentient Warrior: a warrior not through force, but through heart, wisdom, curiosity, and compassion. Through movement, we'll explore the transition from self-judgment toward the Warrior as an ally, advocate, and source of vitality.
Cultural anthropologist Angeles Arrien writes: "The principle that guides the Warrior is showing up and choosing to be present. Indigenous societies throughout the world connect to the process of empowerment through the mythic theme and archetypal expression of the Warrior."In this workshop, we'll dance with the archetypes who protect us. Many parts of ourselves (our critic, saboteur, gatekeeper, the one that pulls us up by our bootstraps, and more) were created to keep us safe.As we evolve, they still hold on to the same patterns and old stories. This workshop makes space for these parts, not stripping away the armor, but transforming it into tools and allies. Our critic holds a lot of power. Let's use that power to encourage, not criticize.Going from criticizing to empowering.About Lead Facilitator – Sylvie Minot Sylvie Minot is the executive director and founder of Syzygy Dance Project. Since 2000, Sylvie has taught weekly 5Rhythms dance classes and workshops in the Bay Area, New York, throughout the US, and Mexico. Sylvie has worked with a variety of populations, including inmates, veterans, at-risk youth, recovering addicts, hospital patients, and the general public.

Sylvie Minot received her BA in Dance from San Jose State University and a Master's Degree in Theology in Spirituality and Holistic Health. She is a certified 5Rhythms® Teacher trained by 5Rhythms founder Gabrielle Roth and a Heartbeat teacher.
Sylvie has studied psychology, indigenous healing rituals, energy medicine, and sound healing. The teachings of cultural anthropologist Angeles Arrien, author Caroline Myss, and Peruvian sound healer Tito La Rosa inspire her.

Since 2000, Sylvie has taught weekly dance classes and workshops for various populations. Mayes Oyster House

Planning a Halloween night for a large group can be complicated. One person wants to dance, someone else wants to find drink specials and another person wants to stop for food. The San Francisco Halloween Pub Crawl makes it easier by bringing all of those options together in one multi-bar event.
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, CrawlSF will launch its four-day Halloween Pub Crawl with more than 20 participating locations. The event runs from 4PM to 10PM and begins at Mayes Oyster House, located at 1233 Polk Street. Event Details

Event: San Francisco Halloween Bar Crawl
Date: Saturday, October 24, 2026 Time: 4PM to 10PM
Check-In Location: Mayes Oyster House Address: 1233 Polk Street, San Francisco, CA 94123
Other Event Dates: October 30, October 31 and November 1Tickets: Eventbrite

Every participant must check in at Mayes to collect an official event wristband. Once the group has completed check-in, everyone can begin visiting the participating bars. The event does not use a fixed tour schedule, so groups can choose their own stops and change plans as the night continues.
The October 24 bar list includes Union Street Ale House, Route 101, El Lopo, Rick & Roxy’s, Hanaro, The Blue Light, Jaxson, Decodance, Beso Mae, Mayes Oyster House, Lush Lounge, R Bar, Uni Pizza, Wizards & Wands, Campus, White Rabbit, Silver Cloud, Music City Starfactory, Sacred Taco, Comet Club, Rockwell, McTeague’s Saloon and Westwood.
This range of locations helps solve one of the biggest problems with group outings. Everyone does not have to agree on a single bar for the entire night. The group can move around, experience different settings and select the locations that work best for everyone.
Participants who want music and dancing can seek out locations featuring DJs. Guests who prefer casual bars can find places where it is easier to talk and spend time with friends. Food stops are also included in the participating lineup, providing opportunities to take a break during the six-hour event.
Tickets include discounted drinks at participating locations and free admission to official bars. Guests can also enjoy party favors, contests, music, Halloween activities and surprises. Costumes are encouraged, making the crawl a good choice for birthday groups, friend gatherings, coworkers, couples and anyone looking for an organized San Francisco Halloween outing.
Because the event takes place on October 24, groups do not have to compete with every other Halloween plan scheduled for October 31. They can celebrate early and still attend another party the following weekend. Guests can even use the opening event for a group costume and choose individual costumes for Halloween night.
The full CrawlSF series continues with events on October 30, October 31 and November 1. Attending October 24 provides access to the opening event. Admission to other dates will depend on the ticket type purchased.
CrawlSF will also be trying to build on its record-setting 2025 Halloween event. After breaking the World’s Largest Pub Crawl record, the company hopes to break its own record in 2026. Every group that participates on opening day will help start that effort.
What’s Included:

Discounted drinks at participating bars

Free admission to official locations

Access to more than 20 bars

DJs and music

Party favors

Contests

Halloween activities

Special surprises
