Join us at Ready, Set, Rescue! on May 17th for interactive workshops, bite sized lessons, and hands-on training with local safety professionals. Whether you practice using extinguishers at the Fire Triangle, watch technical SAR demos, or sign up for alerts, you're sure to learn something.

Mill Valley Philharmonic, Marin's premier community orchestra, presents its final concert set of the season, Circles of Belonging, which celebrates the role that music plays in connecting us to our inner selves, to those we love, and to the broader community we are part of.
The program includes Brahms Academic Overture, Elgar's beloved Enigma Variations, and 16-year-old virtuoso Kate Vo performing Barber's Violin Concerto op. 14—all conducted by our new Artistic Director, Jaco Wong.

Marin Theatre

Marin Theatre will investigate family mythologies in the West Coast Premiere of the intimate, riveting Broadway play “Pictures from Home.” Playwright Sharr White transports late Marin photographer Larry Sultan’s landmark photo memoir to the stage. In this moving and theatrically inventive work, Marin County resident Sultan turns the lens on his parents, wrestling with generational differences to shed new light on the past. Travelling over a decade from his Greenbrae home to his parents’ stylish tract house in the San Fernando Valley, Sultan seeks the truth behind his memories, searching for a deeper understanding of both his parents and himself through interviews and photography. This captivating and poignant adaptation breathes life into a portrait of a man’s undying love for his parents. Bay Area theatre mainstay Victor Talmadge will play father Irving Sultan alongside Daniel Cantor as Larry Sultan and Susan Koozin as mother Jean Sultan. Acclaimed theatre director Jonathan Moscone helms this new production.

San Rafael will rumble back to life as the 36th Annual May Madness Car Show &amp; Parade returns on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
This free, family-friendly event, the longest-running car show and parade in Northern California, features over 200 classic cars, hot rods, and customs lining Fourth Street from noon to 6 PM, with the crowd-favorite parade rolling out at 5 PM. The celebration kicks off with a Friday Night Cruise on May 8 at 6 PM.
New this year: a retro-inspired mobile photo booth inside a restored 1962 Ford Falcon, offering a fun, nostalgic experience for attendees. Also, there will be special American Graffiti screenings at the Rafael Theater in conjunction with May Madness!
Enjoy live music, local food and drinks, and a full day of community celebration in the heart of Downtown San Rafael! FREE!!

A Bay Area child, not yet six, is showing how everyday time in nature can become meaningful science.
During this week's City Nature Challenge, the young participant recorded 10 research-grade observations of local wildlife&mdash;now part of global biodiversity databases used by scientists to understand ecosystems and environmental change.
What began as simple walks&mdash;spotting insects, noticing native plants, observing patterns&mdash;became real data. It&rsquo;s a reminder that some of the most powerful learning happens outside, where curiosity meets the natural world.
The child is also participating in the National Wildlife Federation Junior Ranger 2026 Competition, which encourages young people to explore, learn about, and protect wildlife and open spaces.
For families who value outdoor learning and environmental stewardship, it&rsquo;s a clear example: small observations can grow into something much bigger.
