Mill Valley City Workers Mourn Colleague's Death
Public works employee died suddenly after a brief illness.

The City of Mill Valley lowered its flags to half-mast on Oct. 24 in honor of an employee who died earlier this month after a brief illness.
Public Works maintenance worker Marco Avalos contracted meningitis and encephalitis several weeks ago, and passed away at Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City on Oct. 23 at the age of 37.
Avalos started working with the city seasonally in 2004 and had been employed full time in the position of maintenance worker with the city since March 2005. He lead the paint truck team, filled potholes, responded to storm emergencies when needed.

He was, according to the city, a key member of the Public Works team that responds to downed trees and flooding issues at all hours during the winter season.
“We are all terribly saddened and frustrated that Marco’s life was taken at such a young age,” Public Works Director Andrew Poster said.
