Complaint Names Alleged Shooter in Marin Co., San Francisco Killings

Two San Francisco men and a San Rafael woman are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Marin County Superior Court for the first-degree murders earlier this month of a therapist and yoga instructor near Fairfax and a Canadian tourist in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

The Marin County District Attorney’s Office has filed a 17-page complaint Friday against Morrison Haze Lampley, 23, Sean Michael Angold, 24, both of San Francisco, and Lila Scott Alligood, 18, of San Rafael. All three defendants were allegedly armed during the murder of Steven Carter, 67, of Fairfax, in Loma Alta Open Space Preserve on Oct. 5 and Audrey Carey, 23, of Quebec, Canada, on Oct. 2, but Lampley is identified in the complaint as the shooter in both cases.

Lampley also is named as the defendant who shot Carter’s female Doberman Pinscher, which was found still leashed to Carter when he was slain. He is charged with animal cruelty. Marin Humane Society spokeswoman Lisa Bloch said today the dog was shot in the face and abdomen and is in guarded condition in an animal hospital. The three defendants are also charged with special circumstances of lying in wait, committing multiple murders and murder during the commission of a robbery.

They face life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted. The complaint states the defendants, who also are charged with robbery, stole Carter’s Volkswagen Jetta and camping equipment from Carey, including a tent, daypack, tarp, and sleeping bag, and airline tickets and a passport. In the complaint filed by District Attorney Ed Berberian, Lampley is charged with being a felon in possession of a Smith and Wesson firearm that was stolen in San Francisco.

Lampley was convicted on July 7 of buying or receiving a stolen vehicle in San Diego County on May 26. The defendants were arrested last Wednesday outside a dining hall in Portland, Oregon, when investigators traced them there with the GPS in Carter’s car. They were booked into Marin County Jail around 5 p.m. Monday. Marin County Chief Deputy Public Defender David Brown said his office is representing at least one of the three defendants. The arraignments are scheduled for 9 a.m. in a department yet to be determined in Marin County Superior Court.
