Conference for Teen Girls Seeks Young Organizers

Girls 13-18 can get community service hours working for event, set for March in San Rafael.

Marin Women's Commission is looking for girls ages 13-18 to help plan the 2011 Teen Girl Conference, which will offer a variety of workshops, discussions and resources. The conference will be on March 5 at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael.

Experienced facilitators and presenters will go over topics such as “Friends: Real or the Other Kind”; “Too Stressed to Think?”; “The BF/GF Zone” and “Tools for Bad Situations.” There will be a Teen Exhibit Mall featuring booths with information from businesses and local service providers. The keynote speaker is Jess Weiner of Seventeen Magazine and a Global Ambassador for the Dove Self-Esteem Fund.

The Teen Girl Ambassadors will meet monthly with a subcommittee of the Marin Women's Commission to design the details of the conference. The Ambassadors will select the presenters/facilitators of the break-out sessions, contribute to the design of the conference website and the details of the program, meet other teens from across the county, spread word to friends and classmates and earn community service credits.
