Drivers To Face DUI Checkpoint In Marin County: Police

SAN ANSELMO, CA — Drivers traveling through San Anselmo Friday night could encounter a DUI and driver's license checkpoint as police conduct an enforcement operation aimed at impaired driving.

The Central Marin Police Authority will hold the checkpoint from 7 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in San Anselmo.

Police said checkpoint locations are selected using data on impaired-driving crashes and arrests.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Sergeant JeffPeterson. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

Police also reminded drivers that impairment can result from substances other than alcohol. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications can interfere with driving, and driving under the influence of cannabis remains illegal despite its legal recreational and medicinal use in California.

A first-time DUI can result in an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties along with a suspended license, authorities said.
