Gardening at the School Gate: An evening with Wendy Johnson, on Sept 27 at Mill Valley Recreation Center beginning at 4 pm.
Wendy is a Buddhist meditation teacher, one of the founders of the organic garden at Green Gulch Zen Center in Marin County, an organic gardening mentor to the Edible Schoolyard program of the Chez Panisse Foundation and an advisor to the organic garden program at Indian Valley College. She is also a writer and was honored in Best Science and Nature Writing 2000, published by Houghton Mifflin. Her first book, Gardening at the Dragons Gate, was published in 2008.

From 4:30-5:30 pm, Wendy will cover the school garden movement, including programs that she has visited nationally. Following her talk, the attendees will meet in smaller groups to further discuss, Creating the Future for School Gardens. Topics for discussion will include funding issues, curriculum integration and CA State Standards, high school curriculum, community involvement and volunteer recruitment.
