Getting to the Root of the Matter will provide home gardeners with an overview of why deep infrequent watering is recommended for healthy plants. The discussion will focus on root depths and their up-take of water and nutrients, and how to efficiently water plants based upon Marin’s climate and soil types.

The Speaker: Lois Stevens has been a UC Marin Master Gardener since 2008 and been gardening for nearly 50 years. She currently chairs the Marin Master Gardener Help Desk service, and prior to retirement, was a Chief Engineer and Project Manager for an international transportation engineering and planning firm. Lois resides in Novato with her husband and two cats, and has created a small, but lovely garden which includes both ornamental and edible plants.
