Godly Play Teacher Needed!

Part-time job working with children

Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church is seeking a teacher for our Godly Play Sunday School program. We are looking for an individual who demonstrates a love of working with children, enthusiasm, patience, gentleness, flexibility and a sense of humor.

This is a regular on-going position at 10 hours per month (2-3 hours per Sunday) and takes place on Sunday mornings from 10-12 with one hour of additional prep time twice a month. 5th Sundays of the month are regular days off as are occasional holidays when children remain in worship. Other Sundays off by request and approval. Pay is an hourly rate.

The Godly Play Teacher will prepare the classroom every Sunday, plan for and lead a Godly Play lesson twice a month for children ages 4 – 3rd grade and close the classroom following the service. Additional 2 Sundays a month, teacher will serve as classroom assistant. Other opportunities for work may arise throughout the year when childcare for special services and staffing for our annual summer camp program are needed.

Must submit to a background check prior to start date. This position has a 3 month trial period followed by a review before final hire.

  • Prior experience working in a Godly Play, Sunday School or Montessori classroom
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to embrace the Godly Play curriculum and approach to Spiritual Formation
  • Willingness to take direction and input and a continued commitment to learning
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Children’s Ministry Director, other staff and volunteers
