It’s No Scam, Calif. Business Owners; BOE Changes Banks

The switch affects some business owners' tax or fee accounts when making EFT and ACH payments.

Sacramento, CA — A change went into effect July 1 that affects how some California business owners will make their electronic payments to the State Board of Equalization.

The state agency advised that Citibank no longer processes its electronic fund transfer (EFT) payments. Instead, payments should be sent using Union Bank, according to a news release.

Those who make Automated Clearing House (ACH) debit payments through the EFT payment processor can go to BOE’s new bank and payment processor webpage for instructions.

The switch may also affect some business owners’ tax or fee accounts.

ACH credit transactions with a settlement date on or after July 1, using incorrect banking information will be returned and may be subject to penalty and interest charges, according to the BOE.

In addition, any payments to Union Bank prior to July 1 will also be returned and may be subject to penalty and interest charges.

For those who use the BOE’s online payment system to make their payment, good news: no change is required.
