MUSICA MARIN PRESENTS AN AFTERNOON OF FINE MUSIC AND ART - SUNDAY, MAY 22nd - 3pm

Musicians play a rare quartet of one-of-a-kind string instruments in a world premier by award-winning composer Clint Borzoni and guests

MUSICA MARIN, the premier non-profit concert series dedicated to preserving musical culture by providing quality music programs and performances in San Francisco and Marin, brings together world-renowned artists from Europe, New York, and the S.F. Bay Area to collaborate with exceptionally-gifted up-and-coming young performers. SUNDAY, MAY 22nd, 3pm - 6pm (private residence in Belvedere, CA), Musica Marin musicians will be playing a rare quartet of one-of-a-kind string instruments hand-crafted by internationally renowned violin maker, Christophe Landon of New York, and skillfully hand-decorated by noted French artist Jean Patrick Gilbert, (bios attached) whose artwork will be on display. The afternoon program will include the Musica Marin String Quartet playing a world premiere piece by the organization’s dynamic, young, award-winning American Composer-in-Residence Clint Borzoni. Also performing will be the Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Boys Chorus.

MUSICA MARIN was founded by Ruth Ellen Kahn, a graduate of The Juilliard School and native of the San Francisco Bay Area, who serves as Artistic Director and has performed on every important concert stage in this country including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles to name a few. She has received numerous awards, prizes and critical acclaim, as well as invitations to perform for such organizations as the New York Viola Society and the Hertz Hall in Berkeley, California. She has also performed as soloist with the Mexico City Philharmonic and the New England Symphonic Ensemble. Ruth has been artistic director of two chamber music series in both New York and New Jersey, one of which resulted in a recital in Carnegie Recital Hall

Ruth is also an accomplished violinist, and the co-concertmaster of The Russian Chamber Orchestra. Internationally, Ruth has toured with the New England Symphonic and New York Chamber Ensembles to Morocco, Israel and Jordan, where they performed for the Royal Families. In addition, she has been invited numerous times to attend the Spoleto Festival in Italy.

Ms. Kahn is very active in the area of viola pedagogy and has been the assistant to Paul Doktor at the Juilliard School, taught master classes and has maintained a private studio in both the New York metropolitan and San Francisco Bay areas.

Musica Marin’s Composer-In-Residence, 34 year old Clint Borzoni, has written over seventy pieces, including two full-length operas, two one-act operas, a piano concerto, percussion quartet, work for orchestra, two string quartets, several works for chamber orchestra and over forty art songs. His music reflects his passion for lyricism and functional harmony.

A resident artist in the American Lyric Theater’s Composer Librettist Development Program, Mr. Borzoni has also been honored with the Morton Feldman Award, the Boston Metro Opera Festival Award, and was the winner of opera mission’s cabaret song competition. He has most recently been commissioned by the Delaware Art Museum, the Big Apple Corps Symphonic Band, and the Foundation for the Advancement of Baritones. His new opera with John de los Santos, The Copper Queen, was chosen as the winner of Arizona Opera’s inaugural commission program, Arizona Spark and will receive a second workshop in September, 2016.

Now having successfully collaborated with Musica Marin for the January 2016 event with two world premiere commissioned songs for baritone and string quartet, Clint will be creating exciting new commissions that will be heard by Musica Marin audiences. The upcoming May event will feature a world premiere string quartet suite based on themes from Borzoni’s third opera, “When Adonis Calls.”

MUSICA MARIN is a premier non-profit concert series that is dedicated to preserving musical culture through providing unique, quality music concert events that cultivate and grow audiences’ awareness and participation in the musical arts.
