MARIN COUNTY, CA – Part of a beach in Marin County will be closed until mid-March to protect nursing elephant seal pups and the public, National Park Service officials said.
Part of Drakes Beach, which is within Point Reyes National Seashore, will be closed until March 15.
Drakes Beach will be closed from about a half mile southwest of the Ken Patrick Visitor Center and continuing south.

Northern elephant seals are one of half a dozen pinniped species in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of the time they live deep in the waters of the northern Pacific Ocean.
