Robin Williams' Widow Reveals He Was to Enter Neurocognitive Treatment Facility

Susan Williams blames Lewy Body Dementia for her husband's suicide, not depression.

After his death by suicide in August 2014, it was revealed to the public that Robin Williams was suffering from depression, anxiety, paranoia and the early stages of Parkinson’s disease.

The coroner added another piece to the puzzle when an autopsy revealed that Williams was also suffering from Lewy Body Dementia, the second leading cause of dementia after Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Williams’ widow Susan believes the disease prompted her husband’s suicide, “Lewy Body Dementia killed Robin,” she told ABC Good Morning America in an exclusive interview. “He was keeping it together, as best as he could, but the last month he could not. It was like the dam broke.”

In fact, Williams’ doctor had told the actor that he needed to enter a neurocognitive treatment facility to get a definitive answer about his escalating symptoms. Susan believes her husband’s suicide was his way of regaining control.
