Marin Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael. RoCo Dance, a Marin institution, is celebrating 21 years with their original productions of “Alice.” and “RoCo Dance Onstage.” “Alice” is a modern twist on the classic story of Alice in Wonderland for the entire family. RoCo’s “Alice” is a surreal fantasy bridging the old world with the new, filled with humor, physical intensity and drama. Each chapter is stylized through dance and video production set to a score of original music by Rim Laurens and popular music. RoCo’s artistic director, Annie Rosenthal Parr is directing and re-staging its original 2008 version and concept by French choreographer, Daisy Stoloff. Additional choreographic collaborators include San Francisco artists, Christine Cali, Kristin Damrow, Joe Gray, Meegan Hertensteiner, Jennifer Meek, Melinda Neal, Rebecca Rozell, and Jeff Wong. Original costumes are designed by Wendy Medieros and Annie Parr and video design by Rapt Productions. The dancers featured are nearly 260 selected modern, jazz, ballet, hip-hop and break dancers from RoCo’s upper level youth programs in Mill Valley and Fairfax. The first half of each performance will open with it’s own separate showing of “RoCo Dance Onstage”, which will showcase dances of all genres and age groups. “RoCo Dance Onstage” emphasizes the importance of open participation and range of dance styles. They give students an opportunity to refine and present their skills in a professional setting and build camaraderie and support amongst the school and their peers.“Alice” will begin after intermission.
