Search Continues For Missing Woman, 72, In Marin County: Police

Over 250 search and rescue team members and volunteers have been searching for the missing g 72-year-old woman.

MILL VALLEY, CA — The search remains active for a missing 72-year-old womanwho was last seen Sunday afternoon in Mill Valley.

As of 7:53 p.m. on Tuesday, Judy Gilbert remains missing.

At around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Mill Valley Police Department officers said they were called to a home on the 300 block of Vista Linda Drive about a missing person.

Police said they learned that Gilbert had left the home around noon after abruptly ending a phone conversation.

Police described her as 5 feet 4 inches, weighing 90 pounds with blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue parka and a pink hat.

"Based on recent life events, including the abandoned phone conversation, officers determined that Gilbert was despondent and at risk," said MVPD Lieutenant Shaun McCracken.

Officers immediately began searching the surrounding area but Gilbert was not found and information was sent to the public to assist in locating her. A Silver Alert was activated Sunday night by the California Highway Patrol.

Mill Valley Police requested help from the Marin County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team. The efforts eventually involved around 60 Search and Rescue members, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Team, and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, who all searched through Tuesday evening.

In total, more than 250 public safety members and volunteers from search and rescue teams in Marin, Sonoma, Napa, San Mateo, Alameda, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, and Lake counties, as well as California Search and Rescue, the Bay Area Mountain Rescue Team, California Rescue Dog Association and Marin County Fire Foundry K-9 teams, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and Marin County Open Space Rangers have helped in the search.

"These teams have searched more than 1,500 miles of trails, fire roads, residential areas, parks, and open space over the past three days," McCracken said.

Yet, Gilbert remains missing and the search continues Wednesday.

"The Mill Valley Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the many agencies and volunteers who have assisted in this search. We also thank members of the public for their continued support and ask residents in the area where Gilbert went missing to review home surveillance footage for any information that may assist in locating her," McCracken said.
