Summer Reading Program for High School Students at the Mill Valley Library
You've played the addictive trivia game, now broaden your reading horizons using the same method: spin the wheel, pick a book, win prizes!
The Mill Valley Library’s Summer Reading Program for young adults is all about finding that delicate balance between expanding readers’ horizons and letting them choose what they want to read.
During the school year, teens are constantly being forced to read specific books for class and often don’t have any time to read for pleasure. Now that summer is here, it’s time to kick back, relax, and let teens choose what they want to read. The Mill Valley Library’s Summer Reading Program is designed to help young adults do just that. (Instead of getting grades for reading books, though, participants will win prizes).
The program is open to high school students, including rising freshmen and recent high school graduates.

2. Go to the Summer Reading page and spin the Trivia Wheel (note: players must to select a “power” level before hitting “spin”).
3. Pick a book that relates in any way–– the rules aren’t particularly strict– to the category the spinner landed on. Dozens of suggestions for each category can be found on the website.*
4. After reading a book, players, submit the title and the category in their online reading log.
5. Prizes will be awarded at the Library’s end-of-summer party in the Outdoor Amphitheater on August 17th. All teens, regardless of if they participated in the Reading Contest or not, are welcome to attend. There will be free Sol Food and live entertainment. Participants don’t need to attend the party to win...they’ll just just be sad they missed a good time. Pictures from last year’s extravaganza can be found here.
6. For extra (and optional) fun times, participants can come into the Library and ask a Reference Librarian for a trivia question. If they answer it correctly, they’ll have an extra chance to win one of the amazing prizes!
