UPDATED: Driver Experienced Medical Emergency Prior to Mill Valley Crash

The roadway remained closed for much of Monday.

UPDATE 11 P.M.:

East Blithedale Avenue in Mill Valley is open Monday night after a driver crashed into a power pole in the morning, closing the roadway for hours while crews worked to repair the damage, police said.

The driver experienced an unknown medical emergency and lost control of his vehicle on East Blithedale Avenue at Elm Avenue around 9:15 a.m. He was treated at the scene and released, police said.

The vehicle sheared the power pole at the base and PG&E crews responded to stabilize power lines and replace the pole, police said.

Police announced via Twitter at 10:17 p.m. that the roadway was open but traffic controls were in place, and lanes would remain closed until early Tuesday morning.

UPDATE 3 P.M.:

East Blithedale Avenue in Mill Valley remains closed Monday afternoon after a driver crashed into a power pole, police said.

The driver experienced an unknown medical emergency and lost control of his vehicle on East Blithedale Avenue at Elm Avenue around 9:15 a.m. He was treated at the scene and released, police said.

The vehicle sheared the power pole at the base and PG&E crews responded to stabilize power lines and replace the pole, police said.

Replacing the power pole could last until 5 p.m. Once it’s replaced, traffic will then reopen in one direction at a time until around 9 p.m., according to police.

Eleven homes are without power and 12 more will lose power when the pole is being replaced, police said.

Westbound East Blithedale Avenue is closed at Camino Avenue and at Elm Avenue. Park Elementary School at 360 E. Blithedale Ave. is accessible at Elm Avenue or Catalpa Avenue, police said.

MILL VALLEY, CA- Mill Valley police said East Blithedale Avenue is closed to two-way traffic Monday after a vehicle struck a power pole and knocked down electrical wires.

The non-injury crash at East Blithedale and Locust avenues was reported around 10 a.m. and police said they did not know when the road will open.

East Blithedale is closed between Camino Alto and Elm (Park School), police said. They advise drivers to use Miller.

PG&E crews have responded to the scene to work on lines that are down across the roadway, police said.
