2 Residents Burned In San Jose Fire (Video)

The fire happened late Sunday afternoon just over the border from Milpitas.

SAN JOSE, CA — Two people were injured when flames tore through their home late Sunday afternoon in San Jose, a fire captain said.

A bunch of neighbors called at about 4:30 p.m. to report smoke and flames coming from a home in the 3100 block of Kermath Drive, just over the border from Milpitas, fire Capt. Brad Cloutier said.

As firefighters were en route they saw smoke and when they arrived they found the home's two occupants outside with minor burn injuries.

The fire was so strong in one part of the home that flames started impinging on a neighbor's home. So as a precaution firefighters called for a second alarm at 4:37 p.m.

Cloutier said the pair that was injured was taken to a hospital. They will have to live elsewhere for at least a while because damage to their home was so severe. The American Red Cross is assisting them, Cloutier said.

No one else was injured.

The cause is under investigation but it may have been a cooking error, Cloutier said.
