The De Smidt family is pleased to announce that Michael De Smidt received his Master of Arts in Music from San Diego State University on Saturday, May 21, 2011. This includes a specialization in Ethnomusicology, which is "the study of social and cultural aspects of music and dance in local and global contexts", according to Ethnomusicologist Jaap Kunst.
Mike received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2007.
Mike attended Bellarmine College Prep and St. John the Baptist School in Milpitas.
Mike also plays and builds genuine handcrafted Irish Uilleann (ILL-un) bagpipes. He plays defense in Hurling (the national sport of Ireland) for St. Peter's Hurling Club of San Diego, which will be competing in the Junior "C" Tournament in the North American GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) Championships in San Francisco, this September.
