App Crime Trap: Man Sentenced For Armed Robbery
A San Jose man placed an ad on a popular app to sell an iPhone. He brought a gun to the meet-up.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — A San Jose man has been sentenced to six years in prison for a 2017 armed robbery, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced Friday.
Devin Towner, 19, was sentenced for a felony count of robbery with a firearm enhancement for using a gun during the crime, prosecutors said.
He pleaded no contest to the crime and admitted to the firearm enhancement.

On July 9, 2017, Towner robbed a victim who had responded to an advertisement for the sale of an iPhone on a popular cellphone application, prosecutors said.

Towner posted the advertisement and arranged to meet the victim in Salinas.
When the victim arrived, Towner pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded money. The victim gave Towner the $160 he brought with him to purchase the iPhone.
