Cold Case Murder: 2 Milpitas Teens Arrested
Detectives pieced together the clues in the 2016 murder of a transient.

MILPITAS, CA — Milpitas police announced today that two people are in custody on suspicion of the murder of a transient in the city in September 2016.
On Jan. 31, police detectives linked two suspects ages 16 and 18, both from Milpitas, to the murder of 47-year-old Robert Gutierrez, police said.
The minor was arrested at about 7:50 p.m. when the Milpitas police SWAT team served a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Callan Street, according to police.

At about 9:15 p.m., detectives located and arrested the 18-year-old on the same street, officers said.
Both suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall because the 18-year-old was a juvenile at the time of the offense, according to police. Neither of the suspects' identities are being released.

Gutierrez was found suffering from a gunshot wound when police responded to a report of gunshots on the 100 block of Dixon Road at 3:51 a.m. on Sept. 29, 2016, officers said.
Gutierrez was transported to a hospital and later passed away from his injuries, police said.
