Lifesaving Medal Awarded To Milpitas Police Officer
The officer is credited with saving the life of a 7-year-old girl.

MILPITAS, CA — Milpitas Police Officer Mattison Madnick was awarded a Lifesaving Medal earlier this month by Chief Armando Corpuz for saving the life of a 7-year-old girl last month. She had choked on food while eating at a restaurant with her family.
According to police, Madnick got to the restaurant just one minute after receiving the call. The child was holding her neck and couldn't breathe. Madnick immediately performed abdominal thrusts on the girl, but they were not successful and the girl lost consciousness. As the girl's father and a bystander began CPR, Madnick grabbed a breathing apparatus from his first aid kit.
The officer lifted up her chin, tilted her head back, and conducted a finger sweep of her mouth to dislodge any foreign object. The little girl immediately began gasping for air. At that point the Milpitas Fire Department and an ambulance arrived and rushed the girl to a hospital where she underwent surgery to remove a large piece of meat from her throat.
