MILPITAS COUNCIL: Bike Party OT, Disclosure of Developer Contributions

Flying the flag of South Africa during Black History Month and considering a proposed resolution about unexpected visits from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam are on the agenda for Tuesday night's meeting of the Milpitas City Council.

The city's elected leaders will also consider a proposed law requiring council disclosure of developer contributions, an amendement to a water supply agreement with the city and county of San Francisco, and receive a copy of the February 2013 odor control report, according to city staff.

In addition, the Milpitas council is expected to consider a service agreement with the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department for the 2013 San Jose Bike Party Grant Program, according to city staff.

"The County of Santa Clara Public Health Department is administering the 2013 San Jose Bike Party grant program that offers grant funds from the California Office of Traffic Safety to reimburse law enforcement agencies for overtime expenditures in response to the monthly San Jose Bike Party, which consists of up to 4,000 bicyclists traversing a route of up to 30 miles through different cities in the County on the third Friday night monthly," the council meeting agenda states.

"The goals of the program include ensuring the safety of and law compliance by bicyclists as well as affected motorists on the roadways," the agenda states. "The City of Milpitas was approved for a grant of $6,072.26 to coordinate responses to the San Jose Bike Party with other local law enforcement agencies in the County as needed."

In closed session, the council will hear about negotiations of wages, hours, benefits and working conditions with the Milpitas Empoloyees Association, the Milpitas Police Officers Association, and the International Association of Fire Fighters.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. March 5 and goes to closed session, with public business scheduled at 7 p.m., at City Hall, 455 E. Calaveras Blvd.
