Milpitas Man, 19, Arrested After Hwy 101 Crash Near San Jose

The accident was Sunday night.

A 19-year-old Milpitas man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol following a crash on U.S. Highway 101 in unincorporated San Jose near Coyote Creek Trail on Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Benito Moises Robledo was driving a 2002 Honda Accord on southbound Highway 101 near Bailey Avenue shortly before 10:15 p.m. when he allegedly made an unsafe lane change and struck a 2011 Lexus ES 350 with two people inside it, CHP officials said.

Robledo then allegedly continued driving and got off of the highway at Bailey Avenue but was traveling too fast, failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway and struck a fence.

His car continued traveling about 120 feet down an embankment and overturned multiple times, CHP officials said. Robledo was taken by medical helicopter to Regional Medical Center of San Jose to be treated for major injuries, including a broken leg and abdominal trauma, according to the CHP.

He was placed under arrest at the hospital on suspicion of DUI and remains there for treatment of his injuries, CHP officials said.

The two people in the Lexus, a 68-year-old San Jose man and his 65-year-old female passenger, were uninjured in the crash, according to the CHP.
