Milpitas Police to Hold Free Prescription Drop-Off Day

Unused drugs should never be flushed down the toilet because they poison the Bay.

The Milpitas Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will be accepting unwanted prescription drugs next week in an effort to stop pill abuse and theft.

Members of the public will be able to drop off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal on Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Milpitas Police Department at 1275 N. Milpitas Blvd.

Police will not be accepting liquids or needles and can only dispose of pills and patches.

The initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue, because medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse, police said.
