• Santa Clara County approves potential billion-dollar plan to revamp jails in 'deplorable' conditions (eastbaytimes.com) — Santa Clara County supervisors just advanced a billion‑dollar plan that would tear down and rebuild parts of Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, aiming to fix what officials call deplorable conditions and expand medical and mental health care. The project, stretching to 2034 and cutting more than 1,000 jail beds, drew strong opposition from residents who want the money spent on prevention programs instead of new jail construction.
