Protest To Stop Pesticide Fogging in Cupertino This Thursday
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22ND FROM 4:00PM - 6:30PM IN CUPERTINO: STOP THE PESTICIDE FOGGING SCHEDULED FOR LATER THAT EVENING!
Fogging Alert!
Santa Clara County Vector Control just announced their next scheduled spraying this Thursday, October 22nd in Cupertino and Sunnyvale (where we will be protesting) starting at 11:00PM. Here is their press release:
“Adult mosquitoes collected from the 94087 and 95014 ZIP code areas of the cities of Sunnyvale and Cupertino have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The detection of mosquitoes infected with WNV has prompted the scheduling of a mosquito fogging treatment in the surrounding areas in an effort to prevent human cases of WNV. Weather permitting, the ground fogging operations are scheduled for 11 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, and will conclude a few hours later.”

More detailed info below including report that shows Zenivex E4 (same pesticide use for fogging here) withdrawn in New York by Manufacturer, dead bee report and more!
Last Summer Santa Clara County’s Vector Control District sprayed 19 times, up to 3 cities a night with a toxic chemical in residential areas. And this summer AND now fall they’re doing it again!
★ Breaking News! Zenivex E4 Was Withdrawn By The Manufacturer★
The state of New York received notification from the manufacturer Wellmark International to withdraw their application for Zenivex E4 (the same pesticide they are spraying here in our county) because they were unable to prove that it was safe.
“However, the ecological technical review resulted in unmitigated concerns with respect to data gaps and risks to aquatic species.”

Thousands of bees have reported dead after fogging.
Bees sent for laboratory testing showed Zenivex E4.

In spite of specific instructions from the County Board of Supervisors to find a non-toxic method of controlling West Nile Virus, Vector Control will be spraying areas of Cupertino and Sunnyvale this week. Nevertheless and absolutely against the Board directives, Vector Control is now scheduling massive pesticide spraying this Thursday night!
The pesticide Vector Control is using is Zenivex E4, “96% undisclosed, trade secret.” It kills bees and the predators of mosquitoes: frogs, fish, birds, mosquito eaters, dragonflies, other mosquito predators including likely bats, leaving just the mosquitoes and black flies to multiply without predators. It does not kill the mosquito larva so mosquitoes rebound within hours. It is 100% counterproductive.
The pesticide Zenivex E4 according to the MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET says:
“HAZARDOUS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS, HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED, CAUSES MODERATE EYE IRRITATION. AVOID CONTACT WITH EYE, SKIN OR CLOTHING”... “toxic to bees, aquatic organisms and invertebrates.”
A very small amount is toxic and hazardous! View the MSDS

Please kindly email the Board of Supervisors to tell them to STOP Santa Clara County Vector Control from spraying a toxic pesticide.
