Reports of Gunfire Today Near Milpitas Schools Prove Unfounded: Police

Nearby construction projects likely were the source of the noises.

Three Milpitas schools briefly sheltered-in-place this morning after multiple calls to police of possible shots fired in the area. However, authorities suspect the sounds were from nearby construction, according to the Milpitas Police Department.

Milpitas High, Russell Middle and Pomeroy Elementary schools were on lockdown as police investigated the reports in the region, said Sgt. Frank Morales.

Morales said officers found no evidence of any shootings on the campuses or in nearby neighborhoods, and the lockdowns were lifted.
