San Jose Pedestrian Dies Of Injuries

The 71-year-old man was in a crosswalk when he was hit by a 76-year-old driver.

SAN JOSE, CA — A man who suffered major injuries from being hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk on Monday afternoon in San Jose passed away Tuesday, according to police.

At about 4:25 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at McLaughlin Avenue and Bellingham Drive.

When they arrived, police found a 71-year-old man in critical condition. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The man was pronounced dead the next day at the hospital. His name is not yet being released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

The man was walking in a marked crosswalk, traveling from the east side of McLaughlin Avenue to the west side at Bellingham Drive when a 2011 Nissan Versa entered the intersection in an attempt to turn left and struck him.

The driver, a 76-year-old woman, was not believed to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to police.

This was the second pedestrian death on the city's streets in 2018, police said.
