MILPITAS, CA — A Milpitas man is in custody Tuesday after police discovered chemicals at his home that could be used to make bombs. Meanwhile, investigators searched his home for more chemicals and other evidence.
Operations have been suspecded for the night but are expected to resume on Wednesday. A police officer will be stationed there throughout the night.
Investigators don't believe the case has any connections to terrorism, according to Milpitas Police Sgt. Bryan Hinkley.

This all began at 8 a.m. in the 1700 block of View Drive, a quiet residential street near the foothills north of Calaveras Boulevard. View Drive was closed between Spring Valley Lane and North Temple Drive for about 10 hours. It has reopened.
Police initially informed the community there was "police activity in the area." That activity was a SWAT team serving a warrant.

The investigation began two to three weeks ago when a neighbor called police to report a strong chemical smell coming from the home, Hinkley said.
Firefighters and officers who investigated the tip found bottles containing chemicals, which were taken in as evidence, according to Hinkley. Detectives consulted with the Santa Clara County sheriff's bomb squad, which confirmed the chemicals could be used to produce explosive devices.
They obtained a search warrant that was served this morning at the home with help from sheriff's deputies and Fremont police officers, Hinkley said.
Some properties in Fremont connected with the detained man have already been searched, Hinkley said.
