Shotgun-Wielding Suspect Arrested For Milpitas Home Invasion: PD
He was taken into custody following a police standoff at a South San Jose hotel that began on Sunday and ended early Tuesday.

MILPITAS, CA — Milpitas police have arrested a suspect on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, battery and false imprisonment for an alleged home invasion robbery Jan. 13 in Milpitas. The arrest was made just after midnight Tuesday following a standoff at a South San Jose hotel that started Sunday afternoon. Edward Ruiz, III, 35, of San Jose, was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail, police say.
Milpitas police Lt. Raj Maharaj said in a written statement that on Jan. 13 Ruiz "brandished a shotgun and gained entry into the residence with a second unknown suspect. Ruiz III physically assaulted the victim, who he had met through an acquaintance, held him against his will and robbed him of his property."
The assault happened at a residence in the 1000 block of Abbott Avenue, Maharaj said. The second, unnamed suspect has not been arrested, the lieutenant said. The victim has not been identified by police.
