SJ Airport Evacuated: Construction Crews Set Off Fire Alarm

Evacuated travelers were re-screened on re-entry into the Mineta San Jose International Airport.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – Mineta San Jose International Airport was evacuated this morning after construction crews using a welder set off the fire alarm.

The alarm went off around 7:50 a.m. in Gate 29 or Gate 30, which are under construction, due to the presence of smoke or heat.

Crews are working to get the new gates open in time for the holiday travel season, according to airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes.

Evacuated passengers are being re-screened on their way back into secured areas of the airport, Barnes said, and flights typically wait for their passengers under similar circumstances.

Terminal A, which has a fire door, was not affected.
