Broken Things
We, like little kids, need to have the faith and humility to bring all of our broken pieces or things to God…and bring them regularly.

Broken Things
Often when I go into my home office I find broken things on my desk. Fortunately, these are not my items that have been broken, but broken toys, trinkets, tiaras and other treasures that belong to my kids. My kids all know that I am good at fixing things, so they leave them on my desk in hopes that I will soon return their items to them in their original state, or in some cases even new and improved.
Having five kids has afforded me the great pleasure of fixing many things over the past 16 years of their lives. When I walked into my office this morning and saw another broken item sitting on my desk, something dawned on me as I picked up the broken trinket: I receive more “broken item fix requests” from my kids when they are younger. Yes, as the kids grow up they still break things, sometimes even more so than when they were younger. But now they attempt to fix these things on their own. They may, on occasion, come to me for a little advice. But it is only when things have gotten so messed up that they are at a complete loss as to how to fix it that they are finally ready to ask me to step in.

Thinking about this, I couldn’t help but see the similarity to my relationship with God, and how I have interacted with Him throughout my life. When I was younger in my faith, I was eager to bring all of my broken things to God for Him to fix. I knew that He was not only capable of fixing my broken things, but He was also much better at fixing things than I was. I brought everything to His table, and I knew that my heavenly Daddy would return things back to me in a restored condition, or even better than they were to begin with.
As I have grown older in my faith and life, I have noticed that I bring less of my broken things to God. Now I usually attempt to fix things myself. I tend to only come to Him when things are either too difficult for me to figure out, or when they are so messed up that I am clearly not able to fix them.

This should not be so. We, like little kids, need to have the faith and humility to bring all of our broken pieces or things to God…and bring them on a regular basis. He not only is more capable of fixing things than we are, but He truly cares about our broken things, and wants to fix them, and return them back to us fully restored.
Are you bringing your broken things to The Lord, or are you trying to fix things on your own?
Wherever you are at in life right now, I want to encourage you to daily bring your broken things to your Heavenly Daddy, and lay them on His table of restoration and healing. He will take your broken pieces, your broken promises, your failed circumstances, and your broken heart; He will take it all and fix it, restore it, revive it, and heal it. When he gives it back to you, it will not only be restored, but it will also be renewed to a greater level and capacity than you could ever had hoped for, or dreamed was possible.
In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me. Psalm 86:7
