Son, Mom Arrested For Shooting In Front Of OC Grocery Store That Critically Injured 1: Police

COSTA MESA, CA — Gunfire erupted in front of a Costa Mesa grocery store Tuesday, leaving one man wounded and another man arrested.

The shooting happened at 7:35 a.m. near a Stater Bros. store at 2180 Newport Blvd., according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The victim was rushed to a hospital and was expected to survive, police said.

Police arrested two people at around 3 p.m. in connection with the shooting. They were identified as Costa Mesa residents Rodney Otis Rich, 37, and his mother Tammie Walker, 63.

"This shooting does not appear to be gang related," police said in a statement. "This is an ongoing investigation and any other details relating to this incident will take time to investigate."

No further information was immediately available.
