City of Mission Viejo was caught stealing the campaign signs of candidates challenging the incumbents.
City Staff Raul Villalobos said Assistant City Manager Keith Ratay ordered the removal of ALL POLITICAL signs from City property. BLOG

Yesterday (10/14/2014) City of Mission Viejo was caught stealing the campaign signs of candidates challenging the incumbents in the upcoming election.
According to City of Mission Viejo Public Services Supervisor Raul Villalobos and Merchants Landscape Services Inc. Area Manager Noel Manzo, Assistant City Manager Keith Ratay ordered the removal of ALL POLITICAL yard signs from City property.
The problem with the signs that were found in the landscape Contractor’s vehicle were removed from property that does NOT belong to the City. To the best of my knowledge they were only: Kiss, Sachs, Thornton & Raths signs. I don’t think that Casta Del Sol & 3 ft of the Jeronimo sidewalk as well as other private areas on Olympiad where political signs were allowed for Campaigning purposes is City Property.

Insult to injury - one of the people involved stated: “they are nothing else than trash to me” and one other City staff member stated that he followed the “orders” of Assistant City Manager Keith Ratay and that he is only doing his job! That is simply OUTRAGEOUS!
Not only outrageous it is desperation as well. According to sources apparently Rhonda Reardon has teamed up with Dave Leckness and Wendy Bucknum and they have formed a PAC, Citizens to Protect Mission Viejo, for raising funds, and the Orange County Employees Association Union has put $5,000 into their campaign. They BREACHED Republican rule # 1, DO NOT take Union money for any campaign.

The incident was officially reported to the City Clerk’s Office for the record.
