SMWD Water Awareness Day

Water Education and Family Fun Planned for Water Awareness Day Event

Santa Margarita Water District and Moulton Niguel Water District will present an annual Water Awareness Day event at Upper Oso Reservoir on Saturday, May 14.

Adults and kids will be educated on the importance of water conservation through a variety of crafts, displays and presentations.  New this year is a hands-on, mobile tide-pool display to teach about the impacts of urban run-off to our oceans and how conservation can help.   Drought tolerant and California native plants will be on display to show how they can be used in the garden to save water on outdoor irrigation usage.

Kids will also have the opportunity to make water cycle bracelets to educate them on how water has been recycled for thousands of years by Mother Nature.  A host of fun activities will be available including face painting, a reptile show and digging for fossils.  Free refreshments, including hot dogs, soda, snow cones, popcorn, soda and water, will also be provided.

Upper Oso Reservoir is located just off Los Alisos Boulevard and the 241 Toll Road.  The reservoir’s entrance is at 21131 Los Alisos Boulevard in Rancho Santa Margarita.  For a map, visit www.smwd.com.
