MISSION VIEJO, CA — A very rare cat is waiting for a forever home at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center, the city announced this week.

Muggy, a 3-year-old male cat, is a Khao Manee cat — a rare breed of cat from Thailand, whose name translates to "white gem."

"The Khao Manee is believed to be the rarest feline breed, and the 'odd-eyed' type is the rarest variety," Mission Viejo Spokeswoman Kelly Tokarski said. "The breed is also known as the 'diamond eye cat' because of its signature jewel-like eyes that are green, blue and sometimes gold."

According to Tokarski, Khao Manee cats are known to be playful, friendly, curious and outgoing. They are also devoted to their owners and display an endearing sense of naughtiness.

"Muggy has all those traits and more," Tokarski said. "He is extremely social and talkative, especially when he's hungry."
