Free document shredding event Sept. 19 meant to protect people from identify theft

Sensitive documents shred onsite!

In an effort to protect community members from identity theft, the City and Mission Viejo Police Services are teaming up to host a free drive-through paper shredding event on Saturday, September 19.

Residents and businesses can have their sensitive records securely destroyed from 8 a.m. to noon in the Mission Viejo High School parking lot at 25025 Chrisanta Drive.

Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the nation, and shredding documents with personal or financial information can be an effective measure of prevention.

Folks can bring up to 10 file-size boxes of paper records – cancelled checks, pay stubs, credit card statements, old tax records and more – for immediate shredding on-site by Orange County Shredding. Documents can contain staples and paper clips, but must be free of notebooks, page protectors or other bindings.
