
Update:
A construction crew damaged a gas line in Mission Viejo, forcing multiple street closures for several hours this afternoon.
The workers inadvertently ruptured the gas main at Los Alisos and Muirlands boulevards about 1:40 p.m., prompting closures of both streets in the area, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock.

The damaged main was fixed by 4 p.m. and the streets were reopened by 4:45 p.m., said Joe D’Anna, a spokesman for the Southern California Gas Co.
The mishap serves as a reminder that workers should call 811 prior to any construction or excavation project to avoid damaging gas lines, D’Anna said.

Southern California Gas Co. crews have capped the broken main, and streets have reopened.
