Jordan Burroughs Wins Third World Title with a Plate and Screws in his Ankle

Superman?

As mentioned last week, the past seven days, the U.S Wrestling Team has competed in the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.  Jordan Burroughs secured his third world title in a row, staying undefeated in international competition at 65-0.

That alone is extraordinary, but what makes the feat absolutely mind blowing is that Burroughs dominated his competition with a plate and screws in his ankle.  Four weeks ago he suffered a broken ankle during practice, and soon after had surgery to repair the ankle.  The surgery normally takes 8 weeks to recover before the athlete does anything at all on it.  Burroughs not only cut that time in half, but he wasted no time by jumping right in with the best in the world.  He wrestled on the ankle in practice only once in the four weeks prior to Worlds.

It is up for debate whether or not he is the world's best athlete.  Quite a few can lay claim to that name.  However, without a doubt he is perhaps the sports world's best kept secret right now.  Will he receive the nod he is due from the larger sports world?  Time will tell.  We are waiting.

Click on the video to see an interview immediately following his championship bout.  It is a must watch.
