Ladera Ranch Kohl's One of Three Orange County Stores to Shutter

The Ladera Ranch Kohl's stores will close by summer, the company announced.

A little more than a decade after entering the California market, Kohl's is closing nine stories in the state, including one in Ladera Ranch.

The Ladera Ranch store's doors will close by June 19, according to the company. Its 80 to 100 employees will be offered severance packages or positions at neighboring stores such as the Laguna Niguel or Rancho Santa Margarita locations.

Of the nine stories closing throughout the state, three are in Orange County. In addition to Ladera Ranch, the clothing and home goods chain will also close down its stores in Cypress and Santa Ana.

"To reach this decision, Kohl’s conducted a comprehensive review of all of the markets across the country to understand every element that contributes to making a store successful – from review of the other stores in each trade area, to the rent and expenses involved in operating any location, to how each customer base is evolving and adapting to the company’s integrated omnichannel efforts," company officials said in a statement.

Kohl’s, announced the move Friday, noting the closures affected only under-producing stores throughout the nation, 18 stores all together. In addition to the closures, the chain announced plans to test out smaller stores as well as outlet stores, but the locations of the news stores haven't been made public yet.
