Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 from 9 to 9:45 am you can learn to play the Ukulele at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, 9269. The class is for beginners for the next 6 weeks on Thursdays until Oct. 31.
You don’t need a ukulele the first week. The first class will cover the history, types of ukuleles and resources. The following classes you will learn basic chords, techniques, strummers and songs.
The ukulele sometimes called the uke, is a member of the guitar family. Generally they have 4 nylon strings. Ukuleles come in four sizes: baritone, concert, soprano and tenor. Depending on the size and construction, the ukulele’s tone and volume varies. It originated in Hawaii in the 1880s.

The soprano, often called "standard" in Hawaii, is the smallest and was the original size. You can decide which ukulele you want to learn to play after the first class.
