“Whether your child has aspirations to become a professional on Stage/TV/Film, to build self-esteem and confidence, or just have fun…SCPA is just the place for your child’s individual goals,” said the Vecchione’s. “Kids will experience the production process from the start to the stage, in a fun and encouraging environment. Not only will they learn how to dance, but they will also learn acting, blocking, memorization, public speaking, singing, stage makeup and set design. Come join us as we sing, dance and act our way on stage!”
“At SCPA, we believe the journey is just as important as the show!” they said.
LADERA RANCH SCPA DAD BUILDS AND DONATES ‘THE ADDAMS FAMILY’ SET; AUDIENCE MEMBERS TREATED TO HOLLYWOOD STYLE SET IN THE COMFORT OF LOCAL THEATRE SETTING
True to SCPA’s Ladera Ranch family-style roots is the humble (yet extremely talented) Shark Wheel inventor David Patrick, who together with Pedro Valdez, designed from the Home Depot floor up the most intricately detailed and professional set SCPA has ever been blessed to perform with on stage.
Over 200 hours of set design and build out all donated free of charge to the SCPA kids.
Thanks to two little eight-year old girls: Danika and Alexis.
David and doting Mom Julie Patrick are the hands-on parents every child dreams of. But now, Danika and Alexis, can add “Our Dad built The Addams Family set 2018” to their resume – (the set is really that gorgeous.)
The girls are both in the juniors cast (ages 6 to 8) with their show next weekend, June 9th-10th. They are very much the free-spirited and fun-loving SCPA kids who are extremely sweet and very polite.
It makes sense with a Dad who built from scratch a 32 foot wide x 12 foot high x 8 foot deep grand Addams Family staircase.
“I have an amazing team that helped with the set, especially Pedro Valdez, who is a special effects master,” said David.
Valdez has worked on Hollywood blockbusters such as Spider-Man, Batman, The Lone Ranger, Pirates of the Caribbean and more. Pedro has been the Set Designer for many of the movies he has been a part of and has received many awards recognizing his talent and work.
And the children of Ladera Ranch are the lucky ones to experience singing and acting on one of the sets designed by him and David. David, the inventor of Shark Wheel, appeared on Shark Tank with his innovative wheel design. So the pair had the SCPA kids covered.
But it was his role as a Dad that brought David to this project.
“It has been a project our whole family has helped with,” David said, whose Shark Wheel company is based out of Orange County (sharkwheel.com). “Julie and I decided to do this as a family.”
Julie has also been an SCPA volunteer this season and cast Mom.
“I wanted to make the set really good for the kids,” David said. “I knew we could do it up right.”
Josh and Irene’s children are all gifted in the performing arts and perform or work behind the scenes with SCPA. Part of the allure of SCPA is Josh and Irene. Parents in Ladera and nearby areas know that when their child is with SCPA, they are essentially with family.
Which is why the SCPA experience is so special and unique.
“Just looking at the set you can see the love they put into it,” Irene said pointing to the painstaking details the grand staircase has, including the intricate gold staircase handrails and metal picture frames built onto the wall. “Every little piece has such an attention to detail.”
“Pedro and I do this day in and day out,” David said. “This set was a monster. A lot of wood. But I love the projects like this. We did this as a team.”
While audience members truly enjoyed the entire performance, and enjoyed the set that helped compliment the actors on stage bring the Addams Family to life after months of hard work and rehearsals, those two little girls probably have the most pride for the grand staircase…because they know their Dad built it.
“This entire experience will be a very special memory they will have their entire lives,” smiled Mom Julie.
And they will.
#Dads rule.
